Integration

In order to settle in the Netherlands, the government finds it essential that newcomers like yourselves have sufficient knowledge of the Dutch language and society.

The municipality where you will live offers suitable integration programmes. To put together a programme, newcomers must take an integration examination. The municipality may sometimes grant exemption from this obligation under special circumstances. Following the examination it is determined which education and/or work is most in line with your education and/or work experience. The Centre for Work and Income (CWI) is involved in this examination.

Many municipalities are also offering integration programmes to foreign nationals who have resided in the Netherlands for some time (oldcomers). While oldcomers are not obliged to take part in the programme, they are required to sign a contract with the municipality.

For a meeting about the integration programme, please contact a Bureau Inburgering (Integration Bureau) or a Bureau Nieuwkomers (Newcomers Bureau) in the municipality where you live. (Source: KennisRing)
